My Step by Step Method to Seizing the Day.

I have to admit, I’m a bit of a go-getter. One of my favorite things in life is execution. No, not in the morbid sense! I’m talking about seeing things through, getting stuff done, finishing a project, making a game plan! I love making a plan…and carrying that plan out.

When I see something that needs to get done or speak with someone that wants to do something new, my brain immediately thinks, “ok, how can we make this happen.” Sometimes this advice is unsolicited but this is my blog and I can do what I want. Therefore today I’m sharing a few steps that can help you start a business, reorganize your fridge, learn a new skill/trick/language or try out of the dance team. Carpe diem!

Ask yourself these questions first:

  1. What’s the worst thing that could happen? Oftentimes fear is what keeps people from trying/doing. Simply by thinking about what could possibly go wrong puts the item in a new light. Usually the negative is a lot less disconcerting than you thought it was.
  2. Will you regret not doing it? If there’s one idea that’s preached over and over again across our literature it’s the idea of not living with regret. Think about how this decision/action will affect you in 5 years. How about 10? If you will regret not trying, what further reason do you need to try?!
  3. What legacy do you want to leave? Is this skill/pursuit something that you want to be remembered for? The pursuit of wisdom is one of the most significant opportunities we have in this life. Sharing that wisdom is another one. What unique skills do you have to offer the world? I want to know!

Now try a few actionable steps:

  1. Find help. Want to learn to kite? Find a school. Want to start a business? Find a mentor (I love my business coach). Want to eat healthier? Find a new cookbook or blog on healthy recipes.
  2. Share your dream with someone. Telling someone you are going to do something creates accountability. You are more likely to follow through if you’ve put it out there. Also, a community of people is a great resource, whether that’s on a forum, facebook or your local library. Everyone has something to share and most will offer advice and guidance willingly!
  3. Visualize. Imagine what your life will look like after you do X. What joy and growth will it bring you? What POSTIVE things will you have/get/exude? A little positive thinking goes a long way and helps you realize (even more) the benefits of progressing with your dream.

Now start dreaming!
